Some history of Claunch, New Mexico, southwest United States
Claunch is in Socorro County, New Mexico, southwest United States,
on New Mexico Highway 55. Claunch is named for L. H. Claunch and his
Claunch Cattle Company whose headquarters were nearby. Its location
is nearly the center of all New Mexico.
In the early 1900's, Claunch went through a pinto bean boom--there
is a pinto bean elevator and processing plant still at Claunch.
Its Post Office (since 1935) also serves as the library. Citizens in
Claunch plan to open a museum soon.
