Some history of Colmor, New Mexico, southwest United States
Colmor was a settlement in Colfax County, New Mexico, southwest United
States, along the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe (AT&SF) railroad. It's now
abandoned and a ghost town. The area was first settled in 1887, eight
years after the railroad came through on the way to Springer.
The name "Colmor" was derived from the first three letters of "COLfax"
County and of "MORa" County, perhaps because Colmor straddled the
County line between these two counties.
Colmor's history includes the story of its "boxcar library" in addition
to its role as a railroad town on the line from Raton to Springer.
There was proposals for a "Colmor Cut-off" which almost got built,
And there was an experiment to broadcast electricity from tall towers
along the tracks to power engines equipped with electric motors.
