Camp Tome in 1848 protected settlers from Indian raids as did the Post at Los Lunas from 1852 to 1862. The Algodones QM Depot served in 1851. The Post at Cubero was located briefly about 5 miles southwest of Santo Domingo Pueblo in 1862.

The Post at Cubero was a grazing camp for Army horses and mules in 1851/1852. From Camp Lewis in March 1862, 6 miles south of Pecos, troops burned Confederate wagons, forcing Confederate retreat. Other temporary posts were Paul's Camp, Post of Hatch's Ranch, Post at Las Vegas, Fort Barclay, Post at Rayado, and the Post at Taos. Cantonment Burgwin 11 miles south of Taos on NM 3 protected settlements from 1852 to 1860--a research center is now located here. La Joya, Abiquiu, and Fort Lowell (Camp Plummer) were in the Cimarron Region.
