•  Sources used to produce the Ghost Town Map of New Mexico...

Some sources for the map were a 1911 "Mining Map of New Mexico" and a map published in 1908 by J. W. White showing towns with banking facilities. These maps were compared with the official state highway map of 1961 and Postal Route Maps of 1898 and 1909.

The Ghost Town map thus shows many of the places, trading posts, stage routes, railroads and points of interest where people lived and worked in New Mexico.

Some places in the 1960's still had old and historic buildings as well as an occupied section where life continued normally. Others places were, by 1960, completely deserted, though some buildings or parts of buildings still remained. There were also places that had completely disappeared.
