History of El Rancho de las Golondrinas Living Museum, New Mexico
In the 1700's and the 1800's, El Rancho de las Golondrinas(the ranch
of the swallows) was a stop for the travelers on the Camino Real.
It is 9 miles southwest of Santa Fe, so it was the first stop for
those journeying south--and it was the last stop for those traveling
northbound from Mexico to Santa Fe.
Today (2002), many of the old ranch buildings have been restored and
El Rancho de las Golondrinas has become a living museum preserving
early Hispanic culture as it once was in New Mexico villages.
There's a reconstructed chapel among the buildings, several hornos
outside adobe homes, and many historic artifacts in keeping with
Las Golondrinas's early Spanish village environment.
