Some history about High Lonesome, Chaves County, New Mexico
There are many places named High Lonesome in New Mexico, though most
are only windmill sites. The High Lonesome in Chaves County is near the
Pecos River. It was, once, a trading point, but it's now a ghost town.
Only a few foundations of buildings are left now (2002) at this High
Lonesome site. It's on Route 70, a few miles east of Acme and about
20 miles from Roswell.
A bevy of communications antennas occupy this High Plains location.
