New Mexico Museum of Space History, Alamogordo, New Mexico
New Mexico Museum of Space History opened in 1976 as the
"International Space Hall of Fame", in new buildings in Alamogordo,
New Mexico, southwest Unived States. Its mission is to care for
and exhibit artifacts of space history. In October, each year,
new members who have made a notable contribution to space exploration
are added to the Museum's "Space Hall of Fame".
Included at the site in Alamogordo, in addition to the Hall of Fame,
are a Shuttle Camp, a summer program for children through the
12th grade; the Astronaut Memorial Garden; and the IMAX Dome Theater and
Planetarium. The Museum is on 5 floors. Each floor is a Gallery. Visitors
view exhibits after taking an elevator to the 4th-floor Gallery (Blazing
New Trails) and then walking down sloping walkways until they reach the
first floor again.
The Museum offers many excellent photo opportunities as does the
surrounding area, including Alamogordo and the white sands of White
Sands Missile Range.
